One unexpected and unwelcome souvenir from this trip? It appears I’ve caught a cold. This should be a fun drive home…
Until you’ve driven through Florida you just don’t realize how it seems to go on forever and ever and ever! We did make a stop on the way at a roadside attraction in Ocala, Florida Citrus Center. The big draw were the billboards advertising live baby gators and the Georgia Pecans. In addition, we also found a taxidermied 13 foot gator, lots of souvenirs, delicious orange marmalade, local orange blossom honey, boiled peanuts and Gator Jerky. Yum! It turned into a fun little stop and would be one of the most memorable parts of the drive west.
The original plan was to go up into Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois…an entirely different route than we’re taking. Mother Nature had other plans though. Not just tornadoes, but the flooding is so bad that it’s managed to close many of the highways and freeways. Plus there’s more rain coming. After the trip down, none of us are too keen on taking unnecessary risks so we’re going to take the longer and safer way home.
First night, we’re staying at the same place in Pascagoula, MS we stayed at on the way in. It’s right off the freeway, easy to find and clean. All plusses in my book.
Day two of the drive finds us in Texas headed towards San Antonio. Many of my friends from the south have bragged about this burger chain known as WhatABurger. My friends do NOT lie! Oh good golly those burgers are da bomb! And these Dr. Pepper milkshakes? Out of this world!!!! I can die happy now. Ha ha!
My honey is doing a lot of the driving today since I’m feeling so rotten. He doesn’t do a lot of the driving since his accident, but I’m sure grateful he is today.
Stay with us for our adventures in San Antonio.
