What is a Cornerstone & why is it important & why in the world would I choose that as the name for a section on my website? The cornerstone is the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation. All other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. There's a whole line of discussion we could get into about the philosophical and religious meanings too, but it all comes back to the same over-simplified definition.
Mull that over for a minute. A cornerstone is what an entire structure is built around. The structure can take any shape or form the builder wants, but the pivotal piece is always the same - the cornerstone.
This section of the website is the cornerstone of everything. It's a place to share some of the tricks, lessons, skills, lost arts, alternative methods, survival techniques, prepping, preservation and all sorts of other things that have helped build my personal cornerstone. It's from the lessons handed down to me by those that came before that I have built upon my own cornerstone. Their cornerstones are, in many ways, mine too. I think that's one of the cool things we learn throughout our life - we take a little bit of each of those people that taught us along with us.
It is here that you'll find things that don't really fit into any of the other "traditional" categories, but many will touch in several of those categories too. We'll explore the past, but we'll also look at the practical uses for today and how we pass those skills onto future generations.
